What is a Postpartum Professional?


A Postpartum Professional is an in-home newborn and family care educator who provides non-medical support for new and growing families.

Postpartum Service at Harmony’s Family

  • SHORT-TERM: 3-6 hours per visit, 2-5 visits per week, for 2-4 weeks, some overnights available
  • IN-HOME: sessions can be divided into morning, afternoon and evening visits to ensure full-spectrum education and/or problem-solving support
  • AFFORDABLE! Support without the expense and commitment of extended postpartum care

Short visits allow our Postpartum Professionals to provide parents with education, instruction and reassurance while parents remain in full care of their newborns (with exception to overnights).

The Postpartum Professionals at Harmony’s Family have designed their services to:

  • Compliment and/or foster intuitive parenting skills
  • Build on existing parenthood knowledge and organizational skills
  • Nurture a family-centered relationship

The Role of a Postpartum Professional


Educational Roles of a Postpartum Professional

  • Family Education: This area includes breastfeeding education, interpretation of infant feeding and sleeping logs, identifying infant developmental markers, maternal recovery, building family routines…and much more.
  • General Newborn & Infant Education: Diaper changing, circumcision and umbilical care, bathing, baby nail care, baby product orientation, baby station set-up, getting out with baby (ies) diaper bag set-up and organization…and much more.
  • Nutrition Education for Mom and Baby: Instruction for breastfeeding, pumping, storing breast milk, milk supply factors…and much more.


Support Role of Postpartum Profesionals

  • General Maternal Care:Birth recovery care, family and visitor time, self-care, and light housekeeping/shopping.
  • Baby and Family Care: Partnership parenting and care, understand newborn cues, facilitating family sleep and play times… and much more

The Postpartum Professionals at Harmony’s Family


Areas of specialty can include: Sibling Attachment, Multiples, Children with Special Needs, and Parents with Special Needs (this can include a variety of physical, mental or emotional needs that parents face such as postpartum depression, anxieties or other transitional adjustments) Many of the Postpartum Professionals that contract with Harmony’s Family hold advanced academic degrees in related fields of study such as human development, family psychology, early education, faith-based studies, sociology, cultural anthropology, occupational therapy and nursing. These professionals bring awareness to the amazing potentials of children and the importance of thoughtful parenting.

Pay Scales for Postpartum Professionals
Postpartum Professionals are independent contractors and therefore set their own rate of pay which range between $19 and $28 per hour, based on experience, education and expertise.

The role of Harmony’s Family is to facilitate the professional relationship between families and Postpartum Professionals while parties:

  1. Are in the consultation period of their professional relationship
  2. Are using the billing, invoicing and payment services of the company
  3. Are in the immediate post-service evaluation process
